I know... as you listen, it just gets richer and richer, as she embarrasses herself more and more. But I think your point is so right on. A lot of Catholics think exactly like this woman, and sadly, many have been involved in catechesis (like she has been) over the past forty years or so. And we wonder why there's a problem.
I think discussion about these topics (The traveling Nuns and Catholics who support same-sex marriages) is good and all can learn something but everyone involved needs to remember to speak and interact with love and charity toward the other, not sarcasm and name-calling. Remember, we are all a part of the body of Christ, and we need to be right with Him first! God Bless!
You're right. Sometimes humor and sarcasm can be useful in pointing out the absurdity of things, or a position. I am opposed to ad hominem arguments, but that doesn't mean we can't have some fun with an off-the-wall position. Look at the life of William F. Buckley, for instance, or Justice Scalia, Catholic father of nine, one of whom is a priest, is known for his brilliance in using wit, humor and sarcasm in making his point or going after someone else's. There's nothing wrong with that. Being part of the body of Christ means being in UNION with Him AND THE SUCCESSORS to his apostles. There's an extremely important link between love/charity and unity. That is the crux of Catholic ecclesiology.
The doctrines of a church are its core. No one has the right to go in and change a church's doctrine. The same thing happened to the Worldwide Church of God in Pasadena. The leaders destroyed the doctrines at the death of the founder and stole hundreds of millions of dollars in offerings and assets and caused hundreds of thousands of people to lose their faith and essentially liquidated the church for their own gain. It is all documented in the book "Raising the Ruins" by Stephen Flurry. If you search you can find it free of charge. It doesn't matter what the doctrines are, if you don't believe the doctrines go to a church you believe in. You have no right to destroy the church because you don't agree with it.
There are a lot of "Catholics" like this woman out there... Mama mia! This priest is sooo patient.
ReplyDeleteNotice how she mentions birth control... that's what it all comes back to.
ReplyDeleteWhat is a "Home Church"? Can I have one?

This woman is so awful. She simply cannot listen but must keep jabbering on.
